FAKE GEEK GUYS: A MESSAGE TO MEN ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT
By Andy Khouri
“I think this woman is wrong about something on the Internet. Clearly my best course of action is to threaten her with rape.”
That’s crazy talk, right? So why does it happen all the time?
Honest question, dudes.
That women are harassed online is not news. That women in comics and the broader fandom cultures are harassed online is not news. That these women are routinely transmitted anonymous messages describing graphic sexual violence perpetrated upon them for transgressions as grave as not liking a thing… that is actually news to me, and it’s probably news to a lot of you guys reading this.
So what do we do about it?
This.

sigh.

This needs more notes ._.

Here I am reblogging this from myself because I think everyone who breathes needs to see it and MAKE IT STOP.

This is a joke. He interviews people and makes jokes. Calm your feministic self down.

Get out. If you honestly think that, I want you to unfollow me right now.

That guy isn’t joking, and if he is, its a god awful joke, and has no right to be supported. If he’s joking, then its an example of institutionalized misogyny in comedy that has been built up over the years and decades past, and it is not acceptable.

I am uncomfortable with those jokes, and I’m a GUY. It isn’t ok to do to ANYBODY, let alone people who are trying to enjoy a convention and cosplay a character they like. This is disgusting and shit like this needs to stop, from all angles, even someone trying to make a shitty joke.

Women are not objects, and they should not be treated as such.

If you think this guy is funny for doing that, and if you honestly think I need to calm down for being “feministic” in this issue, then you need to unfollow me, because I have no intention of stopping. And now that you’ve drawn attention to yourself with this, I highly suggest you don’t bring it up again.

In fact, I recommend you take a good long look at yourself. Take a look at how you are treated, and how other people around you are treated. If you think this is comedic and funny, you need to check yourself, because its not. If you think joking about women in such a way that demeans them and objectifies them, you need to check yourself.

And above all else, if you think someone standing up for equality of women and the cessation of this shitty behavior from EVERYONE, not just this comedian, warrants someone like YOU telling that person to “calm [their] feministic self down”, then you need to reconsider your priorities in life.

When I first got this role I just cried like a baby because I was like, “Wow, next Halloween, I’m gonna open the door and there’s gonna be a little kid dressed as the Falcon.” That’s the thing that always gets me. I feel like everybody deserves that. I feel like there should be a Latino superhero. Scarlett does great representation for all the other girls, but there should be a Wonder Woman movie. I don’t care if they make 20 bucks, if there’s a movie you’re gonna lose money on, make it Wonder Woman. You know what I mean, ’cause little girls deserve that.

"It’s like presenting a dog with a sirloin steak and expecting him not to eat it."

Well.

I presented my two dogs with an actual sirloin steak, then told them no.

Woofles didn’t even approach it when I set it down, as I hadn’t told him it was okay to do so.
Quinn approached it, completely ready to take it from the plate (as her manners are not yet as good as Woofles’ manners), was told no, and immediately backed off.

When Woofles heard the no, he turned away as well because he knew that steak was not for him to eat.

Notice how they didn’t ‘argue’, didn’t take it anyway, didn’t get aggressive, didn’t beg, or didn’t try to somehow persuade me that they should be able to have it.

They were told no, they backed off.

So, essentially, if you use that analogy to excuse rape, you’re saying you have less self control and fewer basic social manners than my two dogs.

That also probably means you should be neutered and kept on a leash.

People like this is why we live in fear.
Why is this not blowing up?

Hey do you straight people wanna come ask for more proof that lgbt people often go through hell???

He’s only 4

"Why do you act like you can’t trust straight people until you get to know them?"

But guys this is so much more than homophobia: this is child abuse, this is murder of an innocent little boy, AND it’s revolting homophobia. And just like not everyone abuses their 4 year old son, not everyone is a homophobe.

Fun fact: LGBTQIAP+ people can not read minds.

I KNOW that not every straight person is a child abusing homophobe. I was raised by straight people. I’m dating a straight person. I’m aware of these things.

BUT child murdering homophobes are out there. So are the straight people who will demean me, insult me, try to get me fired, or worse. "Corrective Rape" is a thing that happens, and bisexual women have the higher rates of sexual assault than straight AND lesbian women.  And as we can see HERE, sometimes I very LIVES are at risk, no matter how old we are or what we’ve actually done. (He was 4 and “talked like it.”)

So when I meet a straight person, I don’t know if you are one of the awesome ones who I will eventually be friends with, or one of the child-murdering-“I’m gunna get your fired because you shouldn’t be around children”-“You need to just let Jesus save you”-potential-rapist ones. So FORGIVE ME for not INSTANTLY trusting ALL straight people immediately when I meet the for the first fucking time.

This is a story about a FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD who was MURDERED by his MOTHER out of homophobia. Do NOT try to make this into a “but not all straight people are like that” post. Don’t you fucking dare.

Reblogging for commentary. Jesus fuck, a child murdered by his own mother because of homohobia is NOT THE GODDAMN PLACE to whine about teh poor marginalized straighties. STFU.

yeah but notice that the seal’s intent is to eat those fish and the shark offers a mutually beneficial relationship for them
in which a dudebro unintentionally makes a really accurate analogy for the reason that they’re single forever

That’s a whale shark. They’re docile and in no way threatening to people or those fish depicted. Seals, by contrast, will attack people, possibly out of a frustrated sense of entitlement combined with poor socialization skills.

Well that backfired spectacularly.

This is in every way perfect irony. It’s beautiful.
